Globalisation and Homogenisation?

Students may already have an understanding of the term ‘globalisation’. At a basic level, globalisation is the process whereby the world is becoming increasingly inter-connected. This inter-connectivity pertains to both trade and cultural products.

Students could be split into two teams after reading the following World Health Organisation article:

The teams are as introduced at the start of this article: globalisation as a mechanism for increasing cultural diversity and on the other hand, globalisation as creating cultural homogenisation.

Students should work to identify real-life evidence for their side of the debate and be encouraged to refer to a range of sources. An important part of this process is also to anticipate the criticisms and evidence presented by their opposing team.
